Left Side

Center

Right Side

Left Side debate

Theres a theory or concept going around that when taking portraits of people, that the left side of there face happens to be most flattering or shows the most emotion. I set out on a task to discover how true or false this theory is. By doing this I tested three shots, the left side, center, and right side. Above are the three pictures I choose out of a photo shoot that I thought showed off each side the best way possible.

When looking at these three I do think that all sides are equal as I was able to get a good shot of all three directions. When this 'Left Side' argument comes in is the fact that I had another 6 or so left side shots that where good as apposed to the 2 front shot I had and the 1 right side shot I had. This tells me that the left side might be better if your looking for quick consistency but other sides and angles are still incredibly ussable and when it comes down to it, it makes me think that this theory is wrong. But that might just be the bias of my photo subject for this project as he does make amazing faces from all directions and most of the bad pictures where on my part as a photographer as apposed to one side not showing enough emotion as apposed to another.
